The persona: Lukas Lange, 24
Lukas works on a construction site. He is dissatisfied with world politics and carries a strong sense of insecurity. He sees himself as a traditional Christian with rather classic role models, worries about migration and is generally critical of the system. On social media he consumes little news but subscribes to Bild and Nius — his For You page is filled with right-wing talking points and conspiracy narratives.
Lukas’ persona is modelled on the precarious milieu: people striving for belonging and respect — with a self-image of being down-to-earth, hard-working people who often feel left behind and treated unfairly.
The feed
A real Instagram account was created for the persona and the algorithm was trained: swiping through reels for 15 minutes, watching and liking fitting videos twice, skipping unfitting ones quickly. The For You page was then screen-recorded. For the installation, the material was translated frame by frame into a silkscreen halftone; the displayed texts are inspired by the originals but rewritten to respect copyright and personality rights.
