The persona: Marie Müller, 19
Marie studies cultural sciences. She cares about feminism and queer issues, stands up for equality and fights the climate crisis. She wears second-hand clothes and follows politics closely. On social media she follows public broadcasters and activists from the progressive bubble.
Marie’s persona is modelled on the neo-ecological milieu of the Sinus study: people who see themselves as progressive realists and advocate a fundamental shift in society’s values and structures.
The feed
A real Instagram account was created for the persona and the algorithm was trained: swiping through reels for 15 minutes, watching and liking fitting videos twice, skipping unfitting ones quickly. The For You page was then screen-recorded. For the installation, the material was translated frame by frame into a silkscreen halftone; the displayed texts are inspired by the originals but rewritten to respect copyright and personality rights.
